Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is open to both public housing residents and participants in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The FSS Program is a voluntary program that rewards families for working through a Rent Escrow Program while continuing to provide them assistance to improve their employment situation.

FSS & You

The Family Self Sufficiency Program is designed to help you be successful with the goals that you want to accomplish. A Case Manager is available to assist you in finding resources to accomplish your goals. Whether you want to improve your education level, receive job training, or enter the workforce you will get the support you need to be successful. You just have to be willing to put in the work to reach your goals.

If you choose to participate in the program you will be required to sign an FSS Contract. In this contract you and the staff of the Housing Authority will work together to identify your needs, establish your goals and devise your plan to reach your goals.

FSS & Your Rent

While in the program and working on your goals, you will earn money in your escrow account when you have rent increases due to increases in your earned income. If you have earned escrow it is automatically deposited in your account monthly, after you have paid your rent.
Once you have completed your goals, you are awarded your escrow money. You have up to 5 years to complete your goals and build your escrow account.

Participation

Participation in the FSS Program is strictly voluntary. There is no penalty if you choose not to participate. Interested families may get additional information, or schedule an appointment to enroll by calling 330-369-7318.

FSS History
